Day 1: Late, as usual.

So, the trip got off to a not so unusual start... let me break it down from the flights here until tonight...

The flights from New Orleans to Atlanta and Atlanta to Detroit were not bad at all, it all started with that flight from Detroit to Amsterdam... we were delayed because the catering company opened the back door and didnt know how to close it, there is nothing more comforting than the stewardess coming on the intercom and saying "We think we fixed the problem. we'll be leaving momentarily" That trip was fine but the delay almost made us miss our flight from Amsterdam to Cape Town, but thankfully the fine, fine people at KLM Airline (btw if you ever travel to Europe fly them, best food ever) waited for us in Amsterdam. So we finally get here and then our hotel is on the beach and just great, not really more that I can say about that, pictures are soon to come.

So, welcome orientation rolls around at the early hours of 10 a.m. Cape Town time, of course, our whole room is late. Nothing bad, we just had to lead the group in the "Don't just go.. LEAD!" chant." I can handle a big group, some of the other people, my roommate included kinda crapped their pants... amateurs. After that we took a bus tour of the city, which to my surprise is absolutely beautiful. There is history, culture and excitement everywhere in this city. The world cup is making every single native here so proud to be from South Africa and you can't help but feel that pride when you're around them.

Tonight, we took the party to Long Street (the Bourbon St. of Cape Town, not so much). Me and the group went to a place called Dubliners Irish Pub and Grille, ate dinner and enjoyed/sang the music of tonights featured artist Gabriel. He even let me and Stephanie sing a couple of songs, that we kinda forgot the words to. Oops? but all and all it was a great time. Tomorrow we start our service classes and will be working in that for the week, but that doesn't mean the good times will stop, they have a saying here, "That's Ayoba!" which mean that is the time of your life, loosely translated- so that's our motto for the trip... I will blog more tomorrow, but for now I leave you with this-

Travel on and Ayoba!

Seth
